the eternal placeholder
the lips you run to when hers aren’t close enough
the dotted line after the colon
the friend.
i am where there riverbed ends
the surrogate
the almost doesn’t count
the better luck next time
the fool

the tool
(everybody use me)
the stool
(everybody stand on me)
to get high enough to reach someone else’s expectations
the runner up
- just in case she isn’t competent enough to keep her position

the maybe.

the sidekick

Wow!… I just did a google search & found your blog. I read your piece in Essence and you tell my story… Sad but it’s my truth.
I enjoyed reading, even though it haunts me. Everyday I am renewed so it’s just a part of my story, a part of my truth. I shall subscribe so I won’t miss your future works.

Nice to finally read this. I tried to find a magazine but I guess they don’t sell Essence in Germantown. LOL
I really love this piece. I’m sure it hit home for alot of us who just need to sit back and really put things in perspective; and this is the thing to help one do just that. Thank you.
